Now Playing: Leaving Song Part II - AFI
Topic: Miscellaneous

This may be a long entry, poppet, so feel free to skim and skip as you wish.

Firstly, I feel that I should justify my talking like a (in my own words) pretentious nong. I attribute this to two things - one, the lack of (enjoyable) social interaction all day, which I will explain later... and the second reason is to be my first organised section of this entry:

Reading (and partially 'Viewing'...)
The Far Side of the World - Patrick O'Brian

Yes, I finally found it! I absolutely love the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, so of course I wanted to read the books that inspired it all, and perhaps gain a better understanding of the whole affair. Well, to my great surprise I found one of the books in our very own school library! The strange thing was that
a) it had only ever been rented out once before, two years ago and
b) there was only one book there... of a rather large trilogy.
By 'rather large', I mean 20 books. Rather long books, I might add. So God only knows how I'll manage to read just this one, let alone the whole series.

Anyway, the paragraphs are long, the dialogue formal and the use of nautical terms substantial. My recommendation is that you keep a good dictionary of nautical terms, and of course a normal dictionary, at your side whilst reading it. After reading it for a while, though, you begin to pick up on the language used... and begin to use it yourself. Well, as best us landlubbers can manage.

As I've yet to read the other books, I can't tell you whether or not this is the best one to read; but it does include most of the favourite characters from the movie (I'm only the second chapter in)... and if you'll forgive the slight spoiler, it does at least mention my three favourite characters, Hollom, Blakeney and of course, the Doctor. So if you're in want of epic reading or just really, really love the movie, then come join me as I try to add to my vocabulary!

Listening:
Honestly, nothing particularly new to add here, save for the purchase of In Your Honour by the Foo Fighters (for no apparent reason besides being on special, ha) and a growing annoyance for genre-bashing and mis-labelling bands, etc etc. Simple Plan are not punk. Lostprophets are not emo, nor are AFI.

And I swear, if anyone so much as dares to tell me that My Chemical Romance are punk, goth, or emo, their dental records will be coming in handy in the near future. Now that my violent rage is quite spent, we shall move on to greener pastures.

Viewing
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, directed by Gore Verbinski

Sadly, I'm mostly disinclined to talk to people about it, apart from my dear Johnny Depp-whoring ('scuse the phrase) friends, Hannah and Rachel. And of course I'll post no spoilers here. However, I highly recommend it to, um, everyone. With the note that do not take your eyes off the screen, not even to look at your popcorn, for if you lose concentration, your understanding of the plot is lost as well. Or perhaps it's just my own mind to blame there... Ah yes. Bloom's acting has improved, Depp is for the most part witty as ever, and Knightley's character, thankfully not her in real life, is beyond 'normal' annoying. I hope the writers intended that.

Love and cookies from the 'pretentious nong' herself,

Topic: Blog-related

Welcome to my humble blog! I'm not one for introductions, but I figured I should at least post some nice note to welcome you here.

As you can probably tell, said blog is still in the early stages of its life, and rather bare. But, with some time, dedication and various threats from others, I should be able to get it running efficiently. Well, hopefully.

Until my next ramble,
